Common Parenting Challenges We Address in Affordable Therapy
You keep waiting for the stage that feels more manageable, and it keeps not arriving. You worry this is your life now and are starting to feel hopeless and trapped. You cannot keep doing this every day, but you’re a mom now, it’s all on you – you need help to figure out a way to cope and some encouragement or hope that it won’t always feel this way.
The days all look the same, and the monotony isn’t something you saw coming. You don’t know how to talk about this without sounding ungrateful.
You think it often, more often than you’d ever say out loud, and it brings so much shame with it. It seems like other parents have it figured out and are really enjoying having a baby; why can’t you seem to get there?
Their photos, their captions, their tidy kitchens. You know the comparison isn’t fair, and maybe even suspect it can’t all be real – but it gets to you.
The day always blows by and you’re constantly left feeling like you accomplished so little, and yet couldn’t even fit in a shower. You feel ridiculous for finding it hard and those around you don’t seem to get how all consuming your day feels.
I expected to be tired, but I did not expect how this level of exhaustion would actually feel. And despite being this tired, I’m still bored, and it feels bad to admit that. Nobody warns you about how these two things hit you at once.
Not all of it, and not always. But there are moments where you’d trade almost anything for a couple of hours that belonged just to you – without needing to ask for permission or line up help.
But of course that too comes with guilt – you wanted this! You want to be present, but you desperately need to lay down and have a break or get away for a bit.
The person you were is still in there somewhere, you think, at least. But so much feels different. It’s confusing and scary to feel so far from yourself.
You wonder if people are sick of hearing about the same complaints over and over – when did you become so negative? But this is your life right now, this is what is on your mind and you need to vent so badly – it’s just SO hard sometimes.
You’re sick of making the list and giving instructions for every step of a task. How are you the only one who sees what needs to be done? You can’t keep holding it all with a baby who needs you too.
You can hear how that sounds. You mean it anyway.
The anger comes fast, lands on the wrong person, and leaves you apologizing to a toddler. It feels impossible to slow down and make conscious choices – to respond instead of react. You just don’t have the emotional capacity you used to.
Not in a small way. In a way where one mistake feels like it could shape your child’s whole life. And there are SO many decisions! So much to research, but all the information you find is conflicting.
You’ve searched it at 3 AM more than once, and the answers didn’t settle anything. You suspect others struggle too, but why won’t they say it. Why can’t we all just share the hard parts and feel less alone? Or maybe it is just me?
Naming it feels like making it true, so you’ve kept it to yourself. You go back and forth in your mind about telling someone, or finding help – but it’s all overwhelming.
Every dollar has somewhere else to be, and you feel guilty for spending on yourself – so you don’t. But deep down, you know you need support and worry about what putting it off will do to you and your wellbeing. Doesn’t my child deserve a happy parent?
